Online Workshop: Innovations in Materials Preprocessing - Feedstock Handling and Fractionation for Improved Process Reliability.
January 21, 11:00 AM-12:00 Noon (Mountain Time Zone).
Please join us as we discuss new innovations and capabilities at the Biomass Feedstock National User Facility (BFNUF). As part of an ongoing effort to address economic challenges and scientific knowledge gaps within the bioenergy industry, Idaho National Laboratory (INL) is significantly expanding the capabilities of the BFNUF, as illustrated in the figure below:
The new facility is unique in the world and aims to substantially improve the economic value of mid-stream and downstream operations for bioenergy companies. This new capability will allow INL, in partnership with industry, academia and other national laboratories, to rigorously produce, test, refine, and sort waste materials into conversion-ready feedstocks with far greater reliability than current practices.
The upgrades to the facility will improve the connection between fundamental science and industrial improvements, from microscopic pore structure analysis to improving pyrolysis oil yields. A summary of existing and proposed capabilities, as well as a link for the upcoming webinar, can be found here.
The purpose of the workshop is to:
1. Share a vision for how feedstock preparation operations can benefit midstream and downstream operations and could substantially reduce final product costs by improving process reliability and product quality
2. Describe the ongoing upgrades to the Biomass Feedstock National User Facility
3. Identify upcoming collaboration opportunities for industry and academia to use the new facility
4. Survey potential partners for feedback on the upgrade plans to ensure partner’s needs are met to the best of our ability.
Please forward this announcement to other participants you think would have interest. For follow-up questions, or to discuss partnership opportunities, please contact the project manager Luke Williams at Luke.Williams@INL.gov.
